GEHS Sensitized Top Management of NNPC Pension Fund Ltd on the need and Importance of Instituting HSE-MS in the Workplace.
GEHS team led by the Head of the organization, Dr. Lola Okwuosa, gave a presentation to sensitize top management of NNPC Pension Fund Ltd (NPFL) on the need and importance of instituting a Health, Safety & Environment Management System (HSE-MS) in the workplace.
The presentation took place at the NPFL Office in Abuja on the 28th April, 2016 and was attended by top management led by the Managing Director/Chairman – Mr. Danbello S. Na’adiyalle. Also in attendance were some of the General Managers and principal officers including – Mr. Usman Nasir (GM Properties); Mrs. Rose Eshiett (GM Compliance & Audit), Mrs. Roseline Ogbole (GM Finance); Mr. Innocent Onyeka (Manager, Admin) and Mrs. Uche Ossai (Manager, HR). Some of the staff of NPFL drawn from various departments were also in attendance.
In her presentation, Dr Lola Okwuosa sensitized the audience on the need and importance of instituting HSE-MS. She described HSE-MS as an operational framework for managing HSE risks within an organization to assure the protection of employees, assets, reputation and the environment. She enumerated the 4-step approach of “Plan-Do-Check-Act” to developing an HSE-MS and emphasized that leadership and commitment of the top management is the foundation for an effective HSE-MS development and implementation.
She further stated that the benefits of instituting an HSE-MS cannot be overemphasized and enumerated them to include demonstrating compliance with regulations; minimizing HSE risks; reducing/eliminating work related accidents, injuries and property damage; improvement of reputation and confidence of stakeholders as well as establishment of a safety culture amongst employees. Having established the need and importance of HSE-MS, she encouraged NPFL to adopt it in order to better manage HSE risks and assure the protection of employees, assets and the environment.
In his closing remarks MD/Chairman of NPFL thanked GEHS for taking time out to give the presentation on HSE-MS. He urged GEHS to liaise with NPFL HSE Officer to look at existing policies and HSE arrangements and provide professional advice on how to make NPFL more compliant.
