DG NESREA stressed on the need for all stakeholders to be involved in the quest for the achievement of environmental sustainability during a 4-day Training on Environmental Management
The 2nd edition of the Environmental Management training was held in collaboration with National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) on 22nd – 25th June, 2015 at GEHS Learning and Meeting Arena, 3rd Floor, Kojo Motors Building, Mabushi, Abuja.
The objective of the training was to equip participants with fundamental knowledge of environmental management principles and its application with a view to enhance competence in environmental sustainability and regulatory practice. The course covered a range of topics that address key elements of environmental management and involved teaching sessions, individual and syndicate group exercises, video shows and practical demonstrations.
Declaring the training open, the DG/CEO NESREA ably represented by Mr. Sam Akpabio (Director, Partnership & Education, NESREA) welcomed participants to the training and stressed on the need for all stakeholders to be involved in the quest for the achievement of environmental sustainability. In her own remarks, the Head of GEHS, Dr Lola Okwuosa stressed that the need to enhance capacity of those concerned with environmental management in the industries and regulatory organizations informed the collaboration between NESREA and GEHS to form a synergy to achieve more.
Participants at the training were drawn from various Federal and State Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) as well as major industries across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria and they include staff of Fed. Min. of Niger-Delta, NIMET, NNPC, AEPB, LAWMA, Unicem Cement, Dangote, Nigerian Bottling Company, SETRACO, Flour Mills, NESCO, Dana Steel amongst others.
At the end of the training, participants overwhelmingly recounted the immense benefits they derived from the training, expressed their satisfaction and enthusiasm and promised to incorporate all the lessons learnt into their processes and activities in their respective organizations to protect the environment.
