FMS ESIA Panel Review

The Panel Review Exercise for the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) of the proposed Integrated Agricultural Project within the Iyemero Agricultural Growth Corridor, in Ikole LGA, Ekiti State, Nigeria was held on 15th and 16th November, 2022. GEHS was commissioned by the proponent FMS Farms to undertake the ESIA of the project.


The Panel Review exercise commenced with a site visit to the location of the project in Iyemero on Tuesday 15th November 2022 followed by a technical review meeting the next day. The Technical Panel Review featured presentation of remarks by the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, Honourable Minister of the Federal Ministry of Environment and the Panel Chairman.

The Executive Governor in his remarks noted that the project, which will boost the agricultural value chain and food security, directly addresses a major pillar of his administration - Agriculture and Rural Development. While assuring the management of FMS Farms Limited the provision of institutional support that will ensure success of the project, he also reiterated his commitment to the rapid development of Ekiti State.


In his remarks, the representative of the Honourable Minister of Environment, Dr. Musa Gashau, noted that the project would benefit the communities, Ekiti State and Nigeria as a whole, as the project will increase revenue generation to the Federal and State Governments by ways of paying rents and taxes. He also noted that the project would boost agricultural value chain, increase food security in the country as well as in Ekiti State, which is one of the agricultural hubs in Nigeria.


The review witnessed presentation of technical comments by experts on the panel team as well as closing remarks and closing prayer.
